Another level of security

With the current economic slowdown and the expected retrenchment of foreign and local workers in many sectors in Penang, there is sure to be an increase of crime rate in a few months to come. Snatching of handbags, car hijackings, burglaries and kidnappings will definitely top the list of crimes that will haunt all of us until the economic situation improves (2011 maybe?). Like you and I, we cannot afford to sit down and wait for such things to happen. This important topic of security within and the surroundings of Pearl Garden was brought up by a resident and I believe we need to know if there are areas which we can improve to safeguard our property and most importantly the lives of our families in this troubled times. I must say that there has been huge improvements with the current security team, and so the question is, are they good enough to tackle the upcoming issues?

Please watch the following CCTV recording which caught a burglar trying to break into a house in Penang. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4Ne0JdaNPo

Can the management team setup a few parking lots for visitor/relative? For example, sometimes we have relative from outstation come to visit us for 1 or 2 days, then before they reach, we will go and register at either management office or security guard post so our relative from outstation able to park inside for 1 or 2 days when they are here?

“Escalator in Block A” (the one with yellow bult inside)
    ———————————————-

When the escalator passes “level 8″, it will have a “TICK” sound, please kindly check for safety purposes.

On the parking issue, Pearl Garden inner road has served as an additional parking space for many years now and as more families occupying PG, space is rather limited at times. It is a hassle for many visitors to find a parking space, some may have to park their car across the road (near TYY or Aswing).
Can we have a comment from the committee or management of PG on this matter?

As for the lift issue, can the committee or management of PG look into this matter immediately? Getting trap in an elevator is no fun.

We understand the concerns around the lack of parking. We spent many hours looking into various options in 2008, working with architect and goverment agencies, which include expand multi-storeyed car-park, conversion of the field next to multi-storeyed car-park (the land now belong to state) etc. There is no silver bullet to resolve the car-park shortage issue. We are now looking into a combination of things to help provide relief, stay tuned in 2009…

I have shifted this comment from a resident to this column so that we can sort them in proper order. Here is the comment, “I think the most concern for many here is the security with in and surrounding pearl garden. I would like to start this topic for idea and proposal.”

To start with, we need to encourage residents to cast their votes in the poll provided. At the meantime, residents can bring up specific areas where security is lacking. Cheers.

I just wanted to check with the resident who highlighted the lift with abnormal noise if the problem has been resolved.

The resident highlighted this on the 1st Feb 2009,”When the escalator passes “level 8″, it will have a “TICK” sound, please kindly check for safety purposes.”

    Hope to hear from you.

What is the cost of doing so?

There is a letter dated 22 Sept 2008 on the notice board asking companies to submit their tender for the installation of surveillance system. Tenders to be submitted by 30 Oct 2008. Not sure if any of the tenders were acceptable. Maybe the JMC can comment on this?

To the resident that complain about the abnormal sound when the lift reaches 8th floor, the MS Elevator technician checked for the sound and found nothing. Mr. Gan, our JMC has provided me the report. I will try to put the report in the blog for reference.

    Thanks very much Mr. Gan..

This was the reply from JMC, “The ‘click’ noise in Block A lift was fixed last week. I’m not sure if the resident who posted the comment can confirm it is okay now.”

If the noise still persist, please comment here again for an immediate action.

Many tenders received according to the Tender Committee, close to 10. Tender committee had short-listed 3. There will be further negotiations after AGM’s approval. Please be at the AGM so that you can get more details.

    Hi Leow,

Its me again. Can you open a new dialog box named something like “Complain/Report faulty and disfunction of the facilities in Pearl Garden”?. A place where all the residents can report the faulty of the facilities here in the new dialog box.

    I have 2 things here:

-I stayed in Block A and I have difficulty in watching our local channel such as TV1, TV3, NTV7, Channel 8 and etc. What happen here is sometimes very clear but lot of times very blur, can management check the antenna up there?

-Level C parking lot’s fluorecent light up there is not working. i believe it switchs to “alternate light to be on” in midnight, this method is fine, but some of the light is consecutive off several lights that make the parking lot very dark, please kindly check this too.

    Thanks in advance.

Ok, no problem, I will insert a new section for these issues.

For your info, I have the same issue about the reception of the TV too. And the intercome is not working too.
