Never, never waste food, my friends.

Swine Flu : Danger In The Air

Swine influenza (also swine flu) refers to influenza caused by any strain of the influenza virus endemic in pigs(swine). Strains endemic in swine are called swine influenza virus (SIV), not to be confused with Simian immunodeficiency virus, also abbreviated to SIV.

Swine flu is common in swine and rare in humans. People who work with swine, especially people with intense exposures, are at risk of catching swine influenza if the swine carry a strain able to infect humans. However, these strains rarely are able to pass from human to human. Rarely, SIV mutates into a form able to pass easily from human to human. The strain responsible for the 2009 swine flu outbreak is believed to have undergone such a mutation.[1] This virus is named swine flu because one of its surface proteins is similar to viruses that usually infects pigs, but this strain is spreading in people and it is unknown if it infects pigs.

In humans, the symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of influenza and of influenza-like illness in general, namely chillsfeversore throatmuscle pains, severe headachecoughingweakness and general discomfort. The strain responsible for the 2009 swine flu outbreak in most cases causes only mild symptoms and the infected person makes a full recovery without requiring medical attention and without the use of antiviral medicines.

Of the three genera of human flu, two are endemic also in swine: Influenzavirus A (common) and Influenzavirus C(rare). Influenzavirus B has not been reported in swine. Within Influenzavirus A and Influenzavirus C, the strains endemic to swine and humans are largely distinct.

Fire Hydrant low pressure complaint

I have written to PINTAS to complain about the weak water pressure from one of the fire hydrants in Pearl Garden. During the fire incident the other day (car caught fire), my daughter took this video and it showed that there was no pressure. This is the feedback which I sent to PINTAS this morning.

"The fire hydrant in the video has weak water pressure. A car caught fire and there was no water pressure to rescue as you can see in the video. Who is responsible for this issue? PBA? Please assist to solve this problem."

The location is :-

Pearl Garden
Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim,
11900 Penang.

Complaint Number : 0904-2764 (dated 27 Apr 2009)

Car Caught Fire At Pearl Garden, 21 Apr 2009

A car caught fire at the ground floor parking lot on the 21st April 2009. It caught everyone by surprise, especially the security guards who were not well versed with fire fighting routine. As you can see in the video, the water pressure from one of the fire hoses was weak.

This incident showed how ill equipped we are when such incident happens. I have another clip which indicated that even the water hydrant was not working well. The management must frequently check and improve the fire fighting facilities at all times.

We were lucky to have some brave residents who did whatever necessary to put out the fire at no time.

10 Simple Ways to Prevent Break Ins

No:10

Leaving certain things lying around your yard or in plain sight from the road can unwittingly lure thieves onto your property like frantic bargain hunters to a flea market. First, if you have a bicycle or scooter that someone could easy to walk away with, roll it inside or into your garage. Also, after purchasing a new plasma TV or other pricey electronics or appliance, don't leave the box out beside the trash can. That tells people you have something brand spanking new that could fetch decent dollars on the street. It may also leave them wondering what other goodies are inside your home.

You may also be showing off too much to people walking by your house as well. Open up your curtains, blinds or shades and stroll around the house and see what's visible. If you have a number of expensive items within plain sight or near windows, think about doing a minor redesign to move them out of view.

Chewing gum in lift at Block A.

I don't know what to say....an uncivilized person jammed a chewing gum into the lift button panel. How inconsiderate can one be? If it was a kid, than I have to blame the parents for not teaching them well. Can we check from the CCTV who was the culprit?

Can maintenance section remove that piece of gum immediately? It is one of the block A lifts.

Datuk Kong's Shrine

The Datuk Kong's shrine is old and needs a new one, maybe we residents can form a committee and collect some funds from the residents of Pearl Garden.
